The Mapuche people

“ The Mapuche people live in the west of Argentina and in the central part of Chile. In out country there are groups of Mapuche people in the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Chubut And especially Neuquén and Rio Negro. There are around 50.000 people only in Argentina. In Chile there are around 700.000
The Mapuche people live in a mountainous area. The weather is cold and wet. It rains very often. In summer they live in “ranchos” and they rear goats and sheep up in the mountains. In winter they live in “ rukas “down in the valley where there is little snow. Near the rukas they grow vegetables.
The Mapuche people live in “ agrupaciones”. Each group has a chief called “ cacique”


1-After reading about The Mapuche people, Imagine you are in front of a Mapuche child and you start speaking with him / her about his her style of life

  • Then, write a dialogue between a Mapuche and you ,who you are from Buenos Aires.
